The only Polish city taking part in the contest, Wroclaw beat Athens, Amsterdam and Paris, among other cities in an online vote. The voting was open to residents of the 20 competing cities as well as tourists visiting them. Wroclaw received votes from 146 countries.

"I am extremely proud," Wroclaw Mayor Rafal Dutkiewicz said. "I would like to thank all Wroclaw residents and tourists who love the city sincerely for every vote received. Winning such a prestigious competition shows that Wroclaw is among the most attractive destinations on the tourist map of Europe." (PAP)
