The investment outlays are related to a contract with the Ministry of Defence for the supply of 53,000 MSBS Grot carbines for the Polish army which the factory is required to deliver by 2020.

"The plant has already received seventeen new machines and they are being used in the manufacturing process," said the factory's CEO Adam Suliga.

The modernisation process has been taking place since August 2017, when Lucznik signed a PLN 81 mln (EUR 19.4 mln) loan contract with the state-owned development bank BGK.

Lucznik employs 500 workers. "When the modernisation process ends, we want to increase employment to about 600 people," said Maciej Borecki, the company's management board member.

Lucznik is a leading producer and supplier of weapons for domestic and foreign markets and the main weapons manufacturer for the Polish armed forces and the Interior Ministry. The factory is part of the Polish Armaments Group, one of the leading defence conglomerates in Europe. (PAP)
