Independence, sovereignty worth defending - president
The essence of freedom, independence and sovereignty is that we alone decide about our country. This is why independence and sovereignty are worth defending at any price, President Andrzej Duda said on Monday in Kamienna Gora, southwest Poland.
Addressing the local population, Duda reminded about Poland's 100th independence anniversary falling this year, and in this context appealed to school and kindergarten staff to speak about independence with their pupils.
"Our great-grandparents won Poland's independence for us. Thanks to them, and thanks to our later determination in demanding a sovereign, free and independent state, we also managed to topple the communists. And today we really do have a sovereign, independent Poland which, as I believe, will be a country in which we will lead ever better lives," the president said.
Commenting on the essence of independent statehood, Duda observed that citizens in a sovereign state are free to make their own decisions.
"This is your own country, you feel that you are working for yourself, you feel (...) that you are building your own future, that decisions lie in your hands, that you decide who will and who won't be in government. And that is the essence of freedom, independence and sovereignty - that you decide about yourself and your country. And that's why it is worth defending independence and sovereignty at any price," Duda declared in Kamienna Gora. (PAP)
