He stressed that the solidarity of NATO countries was not an empty word, but something practical and concrete.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly's Spring Session opened at the Polish parliament building on Friday. It is to be attended by parliamentarians from NATO member states and associated countries, as well as observers, and will conclude on Monday, May 28.

The session started with a press briefing attended by Paolo Alli; Marek Opioła, the head of the Polish Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly; and David Hobbs, NATO Parliamentary Assembly Secretary General.

Alli underlined that this session was very important from the point of view of the Parliamentary Assembly, NATO and Poland. He also emphasised the importance of this meeting being held during the centenary of Poland's regaining independence and during the 550th anniversary of Polish parliamentarism. These circumstances add a special meaning to our meeting in Warsaw, he said.

According to Alli, security is a global subject while NATO is the largest, strongest and most important alliance in the world from a political and military point of view.

He declared that NATO wanted to improve and raise the level of stability (...). We believe that global stability is the foundation of peace, he added. (PAP)
