Polish climber dies on Pakistani mountain
A Polish mountaineer has died while descending from the peak of Nanga Parbat, an 8,126-metre-high mountain lying in the Pakistani section of the Himalaya.
Problems arose during the descent at around 7,300 metres. Exhausted and dehydrated, Pawel Kopec eventually died at Camp 4, at an altitude of 7,000 or in the vicinity of the camp, the wspinanie.pl website wrote on Monday, having confirmed the information published earlier by Nanga Parbat Climbers.
Pawel Kopec was one of the three climbers who had summited Nanga Parbat on Sunday. Kopec, Piotr Krzyzowski and Waldemar Kowalewski climbed Nanga Parbat independently.
Located in the western part of Pakistan's Himalaya, Nanga Parbat is the ninth highest mountain in the world. In 2018, another Polish climber, Tomasz Mackiewicz died while descending from its peak. (PAP)
