Julia Hartwig receives Officer's Order of Legion of Honour
Julia Hartwig, a prominent Polish poet, writer, essayist and translator, has received the title of Officer of the French Legion of Honour. She was awarded the distinction by French Ambassador to Poland Pierre Buhler during a private ceremony.
The French ambassador said that the French authorities decided to decorate Julia Hartwig with such a high distinction to honour her outstanding achievements, especially in the field of translation and promotion in Poland of great 20th-century French-language writers, reads a statement published on the French Embassy's website on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Julia Hartwig is undoubtedly one of the most important personalities of the Polish modern literature and poetry.
Julia Hartwig translates from French and English. She is a laureate of the French Fondation d'Hautvilliers Prix de Traduction prize, the U.S. Thornton Wilder Prize and the Austrian Georg Trakl Award. (PAP)
