Wajda's The Promised Land named best ever Polish film
Polish directors, critics and film experts chose Andrzej Wajda's 1975 film Ziemia Obiecana (The Promised Land) as the best Polish film of all times. Federico Fellini's 8½ won in the world cinema category.
The list of top Polish films includes: Wojciech Jerzy Has's Rekopis znaleziony w Saragossie (The Saragossa Manuscript), Wajda's Popiol i diament (Ashes and Diamonds), Roman Polanski's Noz w wodzie (Knife in the Water) and Has's Sanatorium pod klepsydra (The Hourglass Sanatorium).
The list of top world hits includes: Orson Welles's Citizen Kane, Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now, Milos Forman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Michelangelo Antonioni's Blowup.
The all-Poland poll was conducted by the Lodz-based Film Museum in connection with the 120th anniversary of cinematography. (PAP)
