Oscar nomination for Cold War
'Cold War', an award-showered Polish production telling the story of a turbulent relationship against the realities of 50s/60s Europe, has been nominated for this year's Academy Award, commonly known as the Oscar. Nominations have also gone out to the film's director and cameraman.
Written by Pawlikowski and screenwriter Janusz Głowacki, 'Cold War' revolves around a love story between two people who cannot live without each other, yet cannot be together. The story takes place during the 1950's and 1960's in Poland and around Europe, including Berlin and Paris, the film is regarded as one of the best Polish productions in recent years and has received awards at film festivals in Cannes and Seville.
Łukasz Żal and Paweł Pawlikowski, respectively the film's cameraman and director, have also been nominated for Oscars for their work on the film. Żal has also been named for the prestigious American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Award.
The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will honour the best films of 2018 and will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The ceremony will be held on February 24, 2019. (PAP)
