South Korean Seong-Jin Cho is the winner of the 17th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The competition results were announced in Warsaw's Philharmonic Hall in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.

The second prize went to Canadian Charles Richard-Hamelin, third and fourth were Kate Liu and Eric Lu from the US, fifth Canadian Ying (Tony) Yang, sixth Russian Dmitry Shishkin.
Distinctions went to Aljosa Jurinic (Croatia), Aimi Kobayashi (Japan), Georgijs Osokins (Latvia) and Szymon Nehring (Poland).
Initiated in 1927, the Chopin Competition is held once every five years and today belongs to the world's oldest and most prestigious piano competitions. (PAP) mb/
