"This is an important and extraordinary moment: PiS is starting to govern having an independent majority in the Sejm (lower house) and Senate. This means great responsibility for matters of the Polish state", President Duda said during the official designation.

"It is extremely important for Poland to become a country that helps those who are weaker and does not have to fear the strong", the Polish president also remarked.

"Prime Minister Beata Szydlo and her government will be able to count on me on all state matters. I am convinced our collaboration will be good", Duda also said.

According to the Polish constitution, within 14 days of the government being appointed by the president, the prime minister presents the government's programme to the Sejm and motions for a vote of confidence. (PAP)
