Russians to deliver nuclear fuel to Polish research reactor
The Russian TVEL company will deliver low-enriched nuclear fuel to Poland's only research nuclear reactor "Maria" (Mary), PAP was told on Monday by Andrzej Strupczewski of the National Nuclear Research Centre.
TVEL, a fuel company owned by Russia's Rosatom, reported that the low-enriched fuel was produced especially for "Maria". TVEL delivers nuclear fuel to 74 reactors in Russia and 15 in Europe and Asia.
According to Strupczewski, the Russian offer was the cheapest one. He stressed that TVEL was a very experienced company.
"Maria" is currently the only research nuclear reactor operating in Poland. Its power stands at 30 MW. Started in June 1970, the reactor was launched in December 1974. (PAP)
