Poland's banking sector quite strong - Fitch Polska head
Poland's banking sector is quite strong and can cope with this year's and next year's challenges, Fitch Polska CEO Piotr Kowalski has said.
"Poland's banking sector is quite strong. This year as well as next year it will be facing some challenges. It will manage to cope with the ones which are already known and which can be assessed, such as for instance, the bank tax and payments to the solidarity fund," Kowalski told TVN BiS on Monday.
According to Kowalski, there are more questions regarding Swiss franc-denominated loans.
Standard & Poor's on Friday downgraded Poland's foreign currency rating to BBB+ from A-, with outlook downgraded to negative from positive.
Also on Friday the Fitch rating agency upheld Poland's foreign currency rating at A- and its domestic currency rating at A, with a stable perspective. Moody's agency did not issue a rating it had earlier suggested might be published on January 15.
According to government ministers and economists, there were no grounds for downgrading Poland's foreign currency rating by Standard & Poor's. (PAP)
