The European fiscal crisis will put the brakes on global technology spending in 2012, US research firm Gartner said 05 January 2012. Worldwide outlays on technology will now grow just 3.7 per cent this year, compared to an earlier forecast of 4.6 per cent. The contraction will be most serious in Western Europe where Gartner revised its earlier forecast of 3.4 per cent growth to just 0.7 per cent. The overall figures represent a significant slowdown in the growth of technology spending which in 2011 totaled 3.6 trillion dollars, an increase of 6.9 per cent over 2010’s figures of 3.4 trillion dollars. Yaskawa Europe boss Manfred Stern said that the company had decided to open its representative office in Poland to be closer to its customers and to increase sales on the Polish market.

"The location in Wroclaw is very good for us mainly for its excellent infrastructure and the motorway connections with all of Europe. We also want to be closer to Polish customers and dynamically develop this market," Stern said.

The office will deal with product sales, service, technology support and training, according to Stern.

Over 800 Yaskawa industrial robots are already used in Poland, plus 20,000 other devices made by the firm. The company has over 60 branches all over the world and employs 15,000 people. It produces 25,000 robots a year, all of them in Japan. (PAP)
