Polish, US presidents meet in Warsaw

A meeting between Poland’s President Andrzej Duda and U.S. President Barack Obama began in Warsaw on Friday afternoon.

The meeting is taking place at the city’s National Stadium, the main venue of a key summit of NATO leaders due to open in the Polish capital later in the day.

Duda and Obama are expected to discuss "the full spectrum of Polish-American relations," including economic and political ties, in addition to security issues and the future of the European Union, according to a senior aide to the Polish head of state, Krzysztof Szczerski.

The talks, which are also being attended by other top officials from both countries, were expected to take around 45 minutes.

After the meeting, the two presidents were expected to make statements and take questions from reporters.

The two-day NATO summit, which begins on Friday, will be attended by 18 presidents, 21 prime ministers, 41 foreign ministers and 39 defence ministers. It is expected to reaffirm NATO's decision to strengthen its eastern flank in Poland and the Baltic states.(PAP)
