Good results of Tychy, Gliwice car plants

Production at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Company (FCA) Tychy plant grew by over 7 percent and at the Gliwice Opel works by over 8 percent during the first six months of 2016.

The Tychy plant produced over 165,100 cars in the first half of 2016, down by 2 percent year-on-year due to the closing down of production of the Ford Ka model. The plant continues to make such models as the Fiat 500, Abarth 500 and Lancia Ypsilon whose production grew over 7.2 percent, reaching 152,500 vehicles, spokesman for FCA Poland Boguslaw Cieslar has told PAP.

Cieslar noted the good reception of the new Lancia Ypsilon and upgraded Abarth 500 by foreign markets, with sales of the new Fiat 500 continuing to make it an export hit in its class. The latter's production fell slightly, reaching 100,900 in the first half of 2016. Meanwhile the production of the Lancia Ypsilon grew this year by over 10,700 to almost 43,200 cars and of the Abarth 500 by 1,800 to over 8,400.

The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Company (FCA) Tychy plant employs 3,300 people. Its 2015 production reached 302,600 cars.

Meanwhile production at the GM factory in Gliwice has grown by 8.3 percent to over 109,000 cars in the first six months of the year. Earlier in the year, GM representatives said the concern has received orders for over 150,000 fifth-generation Opel Astras.

In 2015, the plant, employing 3,900 people, produced 169,400 cars, a 53-percent jump from the 2014 level.

In 2015, the plant started the production of Holden Astras and Cascadas for the Australian and New Zealand markets and Buick Cascadas for North American customers. (PAP)
