Horse auctions yield EUR 1.7 million at celebrated Polish stud farm
A total of 34 Arabian horses were sold at two auctions in Poland’s celebrated stud farm of Janow Podlaski Monday and Sunday, netting their owners a combined EUR 1.7 million.
On Monday, 18 horses were sold for a combined EUR 409,000 at a Summer Auction. On Sunday, 16 horses were auctioned off for EUR 1.27 million at the prestigious Pride of Poland auction.
Monday’s Summer Auction, combined with a horse parade, marked the end of the National Arabian Horse Show in Janow Podlaski in the east of the country. The event began on Friday and has attracted many horse lovers and breeders from Poland and abroad.
A three-year gray mare named Ersa, sold to a Polish buyer, fetched the Summer Auction's highest price, at EUR 50,000. Other horses went to buyers from Romania, Namibia, Britain, Saudi Arabia, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. Seven horses did not reach the minimum price set by the owners and were not sold.
The most precious horses were offered at the Pride of Poland auction on Sunday when 16 horses changed hands for a total amount of EUR 1.27 million. Eleven-year-old gray mare Sefora from the Janow stud farm claimed the highest price, selling for EUR 300,000 to a buyer from Qatar.
Last year, 24 Arabian horses were sold during the 46th Pride of Poland Arabian horse auction in Janow Podlaski for nearly EUR 4 million. Ten-year-old gray mare Pepita topped last year's sales, fetching EUR 1.4 million for the local stud farm. She was sold to a bidder from Switzerland.
The Arabian Horse Days in Janow Podlaski is the largest event of its kind in the world. It has been organised since 1970. The Janow Podlaski stud farm, established in 1817, is the oldest state-owned stud farm in Poland.
