Ryanair returns to Warsaw's Chopin Airport
After a few years of absence, Irish low-fare airline Ryanair on Tuesday returned to Warsaw's Chopin Airport and inaugurated its domestic flights on the Warsaw-Gdansk and Warsaw-Wroclaw routes, Przemyslaw Przybylski, the airport spokesperson, has told PAP.
"Ryanair announced its decision to transfer domestic connections from the Modlin Airport to the Chopin Airport this summer. From today, the carrier's aircraft fly to Gdansk and Wroclaw every day," Przybylski said.
From October 30, Ryanair will add another daily flight to each of the two Chopin-based domestic routes and from March 27, 2017 will also launch a third connection to Szczecin.
All Ryanair's foreign flights are operated from the Modlin Airport.
Ryanair first came at the Chopin Airport in 2007.
The budget airline carried 4.4 million passengers in Poland on regular domestic and international flights in the first half of 2016, according to the Civil Aviation Office. The number is up from close to 3.9 million passengers carried by Ryanair in 2015.
After the first half of 2016, the carrier enjoyed 31 percent market share in Poland.
Warsaw Chopin Airport is the biggest Polish airport. It services regular and charter flights as well as general aviation and cargo services. Between January and August 2016 the airport handled 8.35 million passengers, up 10 percent year-on-year. Last year over 11.2 million passengers used the airport's services. (PAP)
