Seoul is the third connection between Warsaw and an important Asian country, Minister Waszczykowski noted, adding that Poland has very broad political, economic and cultural relations with South Korea.

"After direct flights to China and Japan we are opening an air connection with Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea. This shows what political and economic importance we attach to cooperation with the Republic of Korea," Waszczykowski told a briefing before departing for Seoul.

He stressed that Poland has very broad political, economic and cultural relations with Korea. "Economic turnover between Poland and the Republic of Korea reaches almost USD 4 billion, but we hope that the new air connection will contribute to its considerable growth," said the minister.

According to Waszczykowski, Korea may be Poland's partner in a number of fields, including the arms industry or the innovative economy. "We can sell (to Korea) our food." He also mentioned the developing cultural cooperation. "Thus we hope that not only businesspeople and politicians but also Korean tourists will be taking advantage of this air link."

PLL LOT CEO Rafal Milczarski said that Seoul is an important destination for his airline. "Seoul is LOT's third connection with Asia and sixth long-distance link."

PLL LOT Boeing 787 Dreamliners will fly to Seoul's Incheon airport three times a week. The flight lasts just over ten hours. (PAP)
