At the same time, apple prices are lower than a year earlier, it added.

Apple exports are estimated at 1.1 million tonnes, up from 960,000 tonnes a year earlier, the report said, adding that apple exports are likely to grow in the coming years.

"In the coming years, Poland's apple exports will reach 1.1.-1.2 million tonnes and domestic consumption will amount to 700,000-800,000 tonnes. In such a situation around 2.5 million tonnes will have to be processed," the report concluded.

According to a Eurostat report published in June, Poland is the biggest producer of apples in the European Union. In 2015, it accounted for 25 percent of all apples harvested in the EU, ahead of Italy (19.2 percent) and France (15.5 percent). (PAP)
