According to Krzysztof Szczerski, the Polish president's chief aide, Estonia is an important partner for Poland in three areas: it is one of the four countries which will host new NATO battalions starting from next year; it is an important link in the Three Seas (Baltic, Black Sea and Adriatic) regional cooperation concept and, finally, it is Poland's important partner in the EU.
Kersti Kaljulaid, 46, was sworn in on October 10 as the first female president in the history of the Baltic nation. This uncompromising non-partisan candidate on October 3 secured the required two-thirds majority in parliament. (PAP)
