Marks & Spencer to close shops in Poland

Marks & Spencer announced on Tuesday that it was to close its 11 shops in Poland and that it would start consultations with its staff whose jobs would be affected, the company reported in a press release.

Marks & Spencer announced that the proposal had been worked out after a comprehensive review of 466 foreign shops, the company went on.

The chain also said that last year it recorded a GBP 45 million loss on ten markets, at revenues at GBP 171 million.

In such a situation Marks & Spencer announced that "it will be closing 53 stores on ten markets, including ten in China and seven in France as well as stores in Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovakia, Romania, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland."

Consultations are beginning today with 351 employees whose jobs may be affected in Poland, Marks & Spencer wrote. (PAP)
