Rudna mine damage bigger than expected
Rescuers are still searching for six miners in southwest Poland's Rudna copper mine, where an underground earthquake killed two miners Tuesday night.
The two dead miners were 33 and 47, Radoslaw Domagalski-Labedzki, head of the mine owner KGHM copper enterprise informed a press conference Wednesday. Domagalski-Labedzki said six miners were still being sought but refused to comment on rumours that rescuers had eye contact with one of them until the man's condition was confirmed.
He added that damage caused by the quake was broader than expected.
Shortly after midnight on Wednesday KGHM informed that eight miners had been evacuated from the disaster site and hospitalised.
Government spokesperson Rafal Bochenek has informed PAP that PM Beata Szydlo will visit the accident site Wednesday after a meeting with the prime minister of Malta. He added that a Wednesday-planned government sitting was postponed in connection with the accident. (PAP)
