Poland considering various lockdown options says government spokesman
A number of lockdown measures are still on the cards in Poland depending on the number of patients and the state of the health service, a government spokesman has said.
"It all depends on the number of cases and the efficiency of the health service,” Piotr Mueller told PAP. “The coming days will show how the situation looks. That is why we constantly emphasise the importance of complying to the current safety requirements. The implementation of subsequent measures depends on how well people follow the current rules.”
On Monday evening, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki discussed the epidemic situation with representatives of parliamentary caucuses. The meeting was attended only by MPs of the ruling Law and Justice party, the Polish People's Party and of Confederation.
When asked about the results of the meeting and the possibility of a lockdown, Mueller said that "various options are being considered."
According to Jakub Kulesza from Confederation, Morawiecki was expected to talk about at the meeting of his intention to announce new restrictions on Wednesday, most likely a full lockdown.
"The prime minister said they are preparing various options, from a full lockdown, the most likely, which will be more complete than the one that took place in the spring, to a less full, intermediate version of a lockdown, which, as the prime minister put it, is unlikely," said Kulesza.
However, assessing the effects of the meeting, Kulesza said that it was "a complete waste of time."
Meanwhile, the head of the prime minister’s office Michal Dworczyk said the government does not exclude a complete lockdown but will do everything to avoid it.
"We do not rule out any scenario,” he told TVN24 on Tuesday. “But when it comes to a hard lockdown, the government is doing everything to avoid such a scenario. We know what consequences it would have for the economy.” (PAP)
