Polish, Slovenian PMs speak in one voice on migration
Polish and Slovenian prime ministers, Beata Szydlo and Miro Cerar, have agreed that the European Union should step up its efforts to stem migration in countries where it originates and boost protection of the bloc's external borders.
The Slovenian prime minister paid a visit to Warsaw on Tuesday.
During the statements for the press after their meeting, PM Szydlo said she and PM Cerar had exchanged views on key issues in bilateral relations and on EU-related matters. The talks focused on security, economic cooperation and the situation in the EU, Szydlo added.
"In a number of issues, Poland's and Slovenia's opinions are very similar. This is primarily related to things going on in the EU," the Polish prime minister stressed. According to her, Poland and Slovenia share similar views as regards migration and Brexit that are going to be "in the focus of discussion in the next months in the EU".
Slovenia's PM said that after Brexit the EU had to remain united. The EU should also pay more attention to the issue of mass migration and take effective action in countries where the problems originate and stop migration at its borders.
Cerar noted that Slovenia had been under tremendous migration pressure in 2014 and 2015 and thanked Poland for sending its police officers and border guards at the time. (PAP)
