Planned changes to immigration regulations aim to seal the Polish border and make it easier to expel illegal immigrants, Interior Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Monday.

"Our main concern is security, followed by sealing the borders, and thirdly the introduction of procedures facilitating the expulsion of people entering or trying to enter Poland illegally, or with the intention of treating it as a transit country because their actual destination is Western Europe", Blaszczak said outlining draft amendments to Poland's law on foreigners.

The new regulations will help Poland avoid migration pressure, in the minister's view. "If migrants ... know they cannot get across the Polish border, they will not try it", he said. (PAP)
