Kaczynski announces deal of European conservative parties

Poland's ruling party leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, has announced the signing of a declaration by a number of European right-wing parties aimed at preserving "European values" and the "sovereignty of nations" in the EU.

The Friday declaration was signed, among other parties, by Poland's Law and Justice, Italy's Lega Nord, Spain's Vox, France's National Rally and Hungary's Fidesz, Kaczynski said in a Friday noon statement.

Some 10 parties, including two Italian ones, have signed the declaration, Kaczynski said.

"The reason for signing the declaration is the conference on the future of Europe," Kaczynski said, referring to an upcoming EU debate on a potential major policy change of the bloc. "This conference has unclear objectives and structure."

The Eurosceptic parties often quote traditional values and the primacy of nation states over the EU as they oppose what they see as the liberal policies of the bloc.

"One can predict its (the conference's - PAP) purpose is to strengthen the processes that according to us do not lead the development of the EU, but instead lead to a deep crisis that is ongoing and to phenomena that have nothing to do with the assumptions of the EU founders and the practice of its first years," Kaczynski said

He also warned that the EU is heading towards "super-state, centralisation and cultural revolution that is aimed at destroying traditional social structures." (PAP)
