"Being concerned about the difficult situation in which a group of migrants staying on the territory of Belarus has found itself, and being guided by humanitarian values, the Polish Foreign Ministry sent today a diplomatic note to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry offering them on-site material assistance," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

According to official sources, a group of 24 people, , including 20 men and four women but no children, has still been camped at Usnarz Gorny on the Belarusian side of the Polish-Belarusian border.

Earlier there were 32 people but, according to the Polish Border Guard, "some of them have been taken away by the Belarusian guards."

Poland has offered to deliver tents, beds, sleeping bags, blankets, pyjamas, bed linen, cosmetics, and, if such need arises, food and medicines.

"...Poland is ready to immediately send a humanitarian aid convoy," the ministry wrote, adding that it could be ready to leave Poland as soon as the Belarusian side gives it permission to enter the country.

The number of migrants from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and other countries trying to cross the Belarusian border into neighbouring EU states has increased sharply in recent months. Most people have so far tried to get into Lithuania, which has accused Belarus of organising the transfer of immigrants to its territory as part of a "hybrid war". (PAP)
