No Polish soldiers hurt in attack on US base in Iraq - defence minister
Poland’s Minister of National Defence has reported that no Polish soldiers or civilian staff were hurt in Monday’s attack on a US base in Iraq.
"Last night there was a rocket attack on the American part of the base. There were no Polish soldiers or civilian personnel in that area..." wrote Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz on the X platform on Tuesday.
He added: "We are closely watching the Middle East. Our military contingents in Lebanon and Iraq operate under heightened security rules."
The information was also confirmed by Jacek Siewiera, the head of the National Security Bureau (BBN).
"A few hours ago there was a rocket strike on the US Ain al-Asad base in Iraq, where our contingent is stationed. No member of the Polish civil or military staff was hurt as a result of it," he wrote on X.
Several American soldiers were injured in the rocket attack on the US Ain al-Assad air force base in the Al Anbar Governorate in western Iraq on Monday, where foreign military contingents are also stationed. This information was confirmed by a spokesperson for the US Department of Defense. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. (PAP)
