Poland to launch drone forces

Poland's Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz has made a decision to create drone forces at the beginning 2025.

Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the decision in the coastal city of Gdynia on Thursday, where he and President Andrzej Duda attended a ceremony marking Polish Navy Day.

The drone forces will be equipped with aerial, ground, surface and underwater systems, with the Navy being involved in the two latter areas, he said.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said that "drones can't be purchased in advance," due to their rapid technological change, nevertheless Poland should have a certain amount of available UAVs in the event of "the most difficult scenarios." (PAP)
