Poland likely to offer aid to sectors with high energy use
The Polish Ministry of Development and Technology plans to offer assistance to energy-intensive industries and will present a draft bill limiting electricity price rises for the sector.
"We want to stabilise electricity prices for energy-intensive industries at the level of PLN 250/MWh (EUR 58/MWh)," Minister Krzysztof Paszyk said on Friday, adding that it was necessary as these companies struggle to predict future energy costs.
Paszyk declared that his ministry intended to introduce this stabilised price "as soon as possible," and added that the majority of industrial sectors in Poland, such as ceramics, cement, metallurgy and glass, were energy-intensive.
According to Michal Jaros, Paszyk's deputy, the introduction of the PLN 250/MWh price cap will cost the state budget ca. PLN 1.5 billion (EUR 349 mln) annually. He added that the ministry plans to propose this price for a five-year period. (PAP)
