Poland orders 152 more howitzers
The Polish defence minister has approved a contract for purchase of 152 Krab self-propelled gun-howitzers (AHS Krab).
The Krab, designed and made by Huta Stalowa Wola, has been the mainstay of Polish artillery forces for a number of years. The order also comes as Poland ramps up its defence spending to hit the government’s avowed goal of making the Polish Army one of the biggest in Europe.
"Today I have approved another contract, which is an important part of the development of the Polish Armed Forces," Mariusz Blaszczak, the head of the Defence Ministry said on Friday in Warsaw.
In total 152 Krab howitzers together with accompanying vehicles have been ordered.
Blaszczak added that his goal is to ensure the Polish Army was equipped with modern weapons as quickly as possible.
"We are witnessing a rapid process of rearming the Polish Army from post-Soviet to modern equipment."
The AHS Krab, which is Polish for 'crab', are NATO-compatible and are currently used by the Ukrainian Army in the war with Russia, where they have garnered a good reputation. (PAP)
