Poland scrambles fighter jets due to Russian strikes on Ukraine

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said on Saturday morning that Polish and allied jets had completed their operations launched earlier due to Russian strikes on Ukraine, and reported no violations of Polish airspace.

"In accordance with binding procedures, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces (DORSZ) has activated all forces at its disposal," DORSZ reported, adding that it had scrambled fighter jets and launched ground air defence systems.

Shortly after 8am on Saturday, DORSZ announced that Polish and allied jets had completed their operations and added that it had reported no violations of Polish airspace.

Polish fighter jets intercept Russian plane over Baltic Sea

Rzeszow and Lublin airports in southeastern Poland had reopened on Saturday morning after fighter jet operations ended following Russian strikes on Ukraine.

DORSZ also thanked NATO, the US and Spanish Air Force for helping Poland ensure security in Polish airspace, and expressed gratitude to the Dutch Armed Forces for their support with air defence systems.

Russia attacked Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine with missiles and drones early Saturday morning, a day before talks between the presidents of Ukraine and the US. (PAP)
