Poland, Sweden start first joint military training
Poland and Sweden have launched the SNEX Gotland Sentry military training on the Baltic Sea, the first joint exercises involving the two countries, Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz has announced.
"Poland and Sweden together for the security of the Baltic Sea," Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X on Monday morning. "We're launching the SNEX (Short-Notice Exercise - PAP) Gotland Sentry, the first ever such joint action by Poland and Sweden."
He went on to say that the training was a result of a Poland-Sweden defence agreement signed on September 2, which involved "joint operations on the Baltic and the development of cooperation in defence technologies."
Poland's General Command of Armed Forces (DORSZ) said on its website that the aim of the exercise was "to demonstrate the ability of the Polish and Swedish armed forces to rapidly deploy selected components by air, sea and land, as well as to improve collective defence procedures.
"Another important element is the development of interoperability and command capabilities in an international environment, as well as an in-depth analysis of security challenges in the Baltic Sea region," DORSZ added. (PAP)
