Trump announced on Wednesday night that Israel and Hamas had approved the first stage of his plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip. According to the agreement, once the terms are accepted, humanitarian aid will be sent immediately to Gaza. A ceasefire is expected to take effect early Saturday, 24 hours after the Israeli government ratifies the deal, the BBC reported.

"We welcome the approval of the first phase of the peace agreement between Hamas and Israel and the signing of the agreement by both parties," the Polish ministry said in a statement on Friday. "We appreciate the key role played by President Donald Trump in bringing both sides to the negotiating table," it added.

Warsaw expressed hope that the measures would lead to the release of all Israeli hostages, an end to hostilities and relief for the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The ministry further expressed its wish that "this historic step" would pave the way toward lasting peace between Israel and Palestine, based on the two-state solution. (PAP)
