Poland's KGHM ranked world's largest silver mine
The copper and silver producer KGHM Polska Miedz has topped the World Silver Survey 2025 as the world's largest silver mine and was named the second largest silver producer, company reported on Friday.
The silver produced by the company is delivered in the form of grains to the jewellery manufacturers and the metal industries, which produce alloys containing silver. KGHM produced 1,341 tonnes of the metal in 2024.
The company also distributes silver in the form of bars to financial institutions and is registered under the brand KGHM HG and has a registered certificate on New York's Commodity Exchange, or COMEX, as well as Good Delivery certificates issued by the London Bullion Market Association, KGHM said in the press release.
The silver and gold have been produced in the KGHM-owned Glogow Copper Smelter since 1993.
Approximately 72 percent of the world's mined silver is a byproduct of the mining of other metals. The precious metal is used in jewellery making, electronics, electrical engineering, medicine, optics, and energy sectors.
The World Silver Survey is one of the most important reports that publishes an annual compilation of the world’s largest silver producers.
The KGHM company extracts and processes valuable natural resources with the largest European deposits of copper ore located in the south-western part of Poland. It is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and owns assets in Europe and both Americas. It employs over 34,000 people. (PAP)
