The US-sourced LNG will be regasified at the Polish LNG terminal in the north-western coastal city of Swinoujscie, Orlen said in a statement, adding that the latest contract with Naftogaz was already the fourth one this year.

According to Orlen, the deal will ensure stability of gas supplies to Ukraine ahead of the heating season.

"It is already the fourth agreement for the supply of gas that Orlen and Naftogaz have signed in 2025," Orlen said. "The total volume of the three earlier contracts is about 300 million cubic metres."

Robert Soszynski, Orlen's deputy CEO for operations, said in the news release that the company's actions were in line with the goals set by the European Union under its energy independence programme REPowerEU, adding that "they even go a step further as Orlen has not been importing gas from Russia for more than three years, and it is also able to support neighbouring countries, including Slovakia and Ukraine, on their way to independence from commodities from the east."

Orlen has been present on the Ukrainian market for more than two decades. In 2007, it began exporting fuels to Ukraine from its refineries in Poland and Lithuania and, in effect, has become the biggest supplier of fuels to the market. (PAP)
