Poland's population falls to 37.24 mln - statistics office

Poland's ruling Civic Coalition (KO) will fulfill its campaign pledge to double the tax-free allowance to PLN 60,000 (EUR 13,846) before the end of the current parliamentary term, KO Senator Grzegorz Schetyna announced on Thursday.

Poland's population dropped by 159,000 year on year to 37.243 million at the end of June, Statistics Poland (GUS) reported on Thursday.

The actual decline rate in the first half of 2026 was minus 0.24 percent, meaning the population shrank by 24 people per 10,000 residents, as compared to 23 people a year before.

According to preliminary estimate, around 115,000 live births were recorded in the first six months of 2026, roughly 1,000 fewer than this time last year. (PAP)
