Nawrocki's pledge came during his first post-election interview aired by wPolsce24 TV channel on Thursday.

"Of course, when it comes to matters that serve Poles and meet their expectations, I, as president, will be ready to sit at the same table with the prime minister of the Polish government," Nawrocki said. However, the right-wing future head of state reaffirmed his "strong criticism" toward Tusk, whose centrist political grouping, Civic Coalition (KO), holds the majority of parliamentary seats.

When asked about the government possibly bypassing the presidential role, Nawrocki said that he "will never let anyone take away powers of the Polish president from him," warning that Tusk has to prepare for "strong opposition" from the Presidential Palace.

Nawrocki added that he will work to make Poland a country in which "people trust state institutions" and a country which is "not governed by fear." (PAP)
