Poland's promotion foundation accuses former management of fraud
The Polish National Foundation (PFN), a body set up to promote Poland abroad, has notified prosecutors that its previous management might have defrauded over PLN 30 million (EUR 7.22 mln).
The PFN was established in 2016 by close to 20 state-owned or state-controlled companies, when the socially-conservative Law and Justice party was in power.
"We prepared the notification of a possible crime based on audits that had been carried out earlier," PFN head Maciej Szudek said at a press conference on Friday.
Szudek said PFN estimated its former management may have misspent PLN 30 million in the years 2017-2024.
The irregularities included the conclusion of unfavourable internal and external contracts and unjustified transfers of the foundation’s financial assets.
Szudek said the audits were ongoing and that the PLN 30 million of misused funds mentioned in the notification to prosecutors may not be the final figure. (PAP)
