Pole among victims of Austrian school shooting
A Polish citizen has been found to be among the victims of the shooting attack that took place in the Austrian city of Graz on Tuesday, Austrian newspapers have reported.
On Tuesday morning, a former pupil killed nine students and a teacher in a shooting spree at a secondary school in Graz, southeastern Austria. Kronen Zeitung and Die Presse wrote on Wednesday that among the victims was a teenager holding Polish citizenship.
A spokesperson for the Polish foreign ministry, Pawel Wronski, has confirmed the news, but did not specify the age of the victim.
Austrian police said that the 21-year-old acted alone and was carrying a rifle and a handgun. Shortly after the attack, he committed suicide in a school bathroom.
Police also stated on Wednesday that the shooter had not revealed any motive for the attack in a farewell letter left at his home where officers also found a non-functioning pipe bomb.
Austrian media have called the Graz attack the most tragic shooting in the country's history. A three-day national mourning has been declared, and a minute's silence held for the ten victims. (PAP)
