Pole arrested for helping Russia plot assassination attempt on Zelensky
A man who allegedly offered his cooperation to Russia's intelligence in planning to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been arrested in Poland, the National Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday.
The arrest of a Polish citizen named only as Pawel K. was the result of a joint operation by Polish and Ukrainian prosecutors and security services.
He was charged with "reporting readiness to act for foreign intelligence against the Republic of Poland, qualified under Article 130(3) of the Penal Code," Anna Adamiak, Poland's Prosecutor General spokeswoman said.
She added that the crime is punishable by up to eight years in prison.
The joint investigation found that the suspect had offered his help to Russia's military intelligence in a possible assassination attempt on Zelensky and established contacts with citizens of the Russian Federation directly involved in the war in Ukraine.
"His tasks included collecting and providing the military intelligence of the Russian Federation with information on the security of the Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport. This was, among other things, to help the Russian special services plan a possible attack on the life of the head of a foreign state - the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky," Adamiak said.
