Polish army to acquire nearly 10,000 kamikaze drones
The Polish Armaments Agency and Polish firm WB Electronics have signed a framework agreement for the delivery of 1,000 sets, comprising a total of 10,000 Warmate loitering munitions drones to the Polish Armed Forces.
The signing ceremony on Thursday was attended by Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said executive contracts within the framework agreement will be signed periodically until 2035 to ensure the army receives the latest equipment versions. He hailed WB Electronics as "widely known and recognised as the best drone manufacturing company in Europe today."
The minister also announced the creation of a "Drone Legion" to gather individuals from outside the military who have drone operation experience and are ready to support soldiers in times of crisis. The army estimated that around 300,000 people possess such skills.
Plans for further drone purchases and training, as well as drone-adapted training grounds were also announced. Additionally, an "economic mission" is planned to strengthen ties in the drone sector with southern European countries like Croatia.
