Polish fighter jets complete mission after being scrambled overnight
The Polish Operational Command of Armed Forces (DORSZ) has announced in a statement that its fighter jets have completed their mission in response to Russia's overnight attacks in western Ukraine.
"Due to a reduction in the threat level of missile strikes by Russian aviation on areas bordering our territory, the missions of Polish and allied aviation in our airspace have been completed," DORSZ announced on the X platform on Friday morning.
An air alert was declared in all regions of Ukraine on Thursday night into Friday morning when Russia launched a drone attack late in the evening on Thursday. It was also reported that Russian Tu22 M3 and Tu95 MS bombers took off that night.
The statement from DORSZ on the attack mentioned the possibility of increased noise levels in a south-eastern area of Poland due to the operations in Polish airspace.
Ukrinform, the Ukrainian press agency reported that Ukraine's air defense forces shot down seven Russian Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles and 17 Shahed-131/136 suicide drones early on Friday morning.
"The Polish Army is continuously monitoring the developments on Ukrainian territory and is maintaining a state of readiness to safeguard the security of Polish airspace," DORSZ wrote. (PAP)
