On Tuesday, the website of the Prime Minister's Office published information concerning the continuation of a government scheme aimed to keep energy prices in check for the next 12 months after the current programme, in force until the beginning of summer, concludes.

The former government decided to introduce the freeze scheme after Russia's invasion of Ukraine triggered a massive increase in energy prices in Europe.

Paulina Hennig-Kloska announced on Wednesday that the new maximum price for full consumption of electricity would be PLN 500 (EUR 115) per MWh, compared to PLN 412 (EUR 95) set in 2022. The fixed rate will apply to every household, unlike before.

The new scheme will be supplemented with an energy voucher which will be available to less well-off households. Around 3.5 million households will be able to benefit from this solution, the minister added.

Hennig-Kloska said that new legislation to extend the energy price 'shield' measures would be in force from July 1, 2024, until June 30, 2025.

Analysts at the private lender mBank estimated that following the adoption of the new solutions, electricity bills would increase by 11-13 percent. (PAP)
