Polish missile likely destroyed house amid Russian drone incursion - minister

The minister-coordinator of security services has confirmed that a missile fired by a Polish military jet to shoot down a Russian drone was likely responsible for the damage to a residence in the village of Wyryki, located in eastern Poland.

Last week, Russian drones repeatedly violated Polish airspace during a major aerial attack on Ukraine, which Warsaw described as a provocation. The incident prompted Poland and its NATO allies to scramble fighter jets, and Poland said that the drones posing a direct threat were shot down that night.

In an interview with private broadcaster TVN 24 on Wednesday, Tomasz Siemoniak commented on a recent report by the Rzeczpospolita newspaper which, citing anonymous sources within the country's security structures, initially suggested that the house in Wyryki was not damaged by a falling drone, but by a stray anti-aircraft missile fired by a Polish F-16 jet.

"Everything indicates that it was a missile fired by our plane in defence of Poland...," Siemoniak said, adding that an official statement would be forthcoming.

The minister also reassured that the military was committed to covering the expenses related to the damage inflicted on the property.(PAP)
