The English version of the play premiered in the US on January 18 and had reportedly been received brilliantly well by both the public and critics, according to Elzbieta Manthey.

"The show... by the Arlekin Players Theatre company resonated with the New York theatre community, and due to its popularity, the producers decided to run additional shows," she said. "The show's success has also led to the possibility of seeing Slobodzianek's drama again in New York in a few months - this time on Broadway!"

She went on to say that when "compared to other high-profile productions in New York over the past year, touching on the issue of anti-Semitism, 'Our Class' has been praised by critics for its superb, tight-knit cast, original set design and shocking, timely and thought-provoking story."

'Our Class' is the English version, translated by Norman Allen, of the original 'Nasza Klasa' directed by Igor Golyak. The set design for the play was made by Jan Pappelbaum and the music was composed by Academy Award winner Anna Drubich.

The Polish original written by Tadeusz Slobodzianek was awarded the Nike Polish literary prize. (PAP)
