Polish PM backs Meloni's EU-US summit proposal
Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has expressed support for an EU-US summit, put forward by his Italian counterpart, Georgia Meloni, amid rising tensions between Washington and Kyiv.
Meloni's call for an immediate gathering of the United States, EU members and allies was prompted by an unprecedented clash between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House on Friday.
Tusk endorsed the proposal before departing for security talks in London on Sunday.
"Today, it seems very necessary indeed," he said, expressing hope for fruitful results due to the good relations between Trump and Meloni.
The Polish prime minister also said that in London he would strongly demand that all European countries consider strengthening the eastern flank.
"Today we all loudly say: peace through strength," Tusk stated. "A strong Europe, believing in its own strength, well-armed, prepared to defend our borders, is a Europe that can guarantee peace. Not through the capitulation of Ukraine, but through our own strength." (PAP)
