Polish PM wins parliamentary confidence vote
Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk, along with his centrist coalition government, has secured a vote of confidence from the lower house of parliament.
In the vote held on Wednesday, the government secured 243 votes in favour compared to 210 votes against, with no abstentions.
The vote came after more than seven hours of debate and questions directed at the prime minister.
Tusk had requested a vote of confidence from parliament to reaffirm his leadership following the defeat of his centrist candidate, Rafal Trzaskowski, by the right-wing Karol Nawrocki, who was supported by the socially-conservative Law and Justice (PiS), in the presidential run-off election on June 1. This outcome posed a significant setback to Tusk's intended pro-European reforms and judicial overhaul. (PAP)
