Polish president talks with US counterpart about Russian drone incursion into Poland
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has said he held a phone call with his US counterpart Donald Trump about Russian drones that had entered Poland's airspace overnight.
"I have just spoken by phone with US President Donald Trump about the multiple violations of Polish airspace by Russian drones, that occurred last night," Nawrocki wrote on the X platform on Wednesday evening.
"This conversation is part of a series of consultations I've been conducting with our allies. Today's talks confirmed our unity," he added.
The head of the presidential office, Zbigniew Bogucki, told a private broadcaster Polsat News earlier on Wednesday that this was the fourth conversation of this type, after two video conferences in a wider group that took place before and after the meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, and after Nawrocki's September visit to the United States.
Before the Wednesday phone call with Nawrocki, Trump posted to his Truth Social platform: "What's with Russia violating Poland's airspace with drones? Here we go!"
On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, Poland's airspace was repeatedly violated by drones during Russia's attack on Ukraine. Poland's military deemed this an "act of aggression" and an "unprecedented event" that posed a real threat to the safety of Polish citizens. (PAP)mmr/at
