Polish rail freight carrier calls on gov't to pay compensation
The country's biggest rail freight carrier PKP Cargo and trade unions operating within the group have urged the prime minister and the minister of state assets for the payment of compensation for the so-called coal transport decision.
The company requested compensation for coal shipments carried out after the outbreak of war in Ukraine at the expense of other contracts and the losses incurred as a result.
"The Management Board of PKP CARGO, together with representatives of all trade unions operating in the company, is appealing to the prime minister and the minister of state assets for the urgent payment of compensation for the so-called coal decision. This may help to save the company," the press statement wrote.
PKP Cargo claimed that the implementation of two decisions by then Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki regarding the transport of coal from Baltic ports interfered with the group's freedom of action.
According to the carrier, the realisation of the coal decision significantly worsened the already bad financial situation the company was in.
PKP Cargo said on Wednesday that the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw had opened an investigation into the failure to fulfil duties and abuse of powers at the company between July 2022 and July 2023. As stated, the case concerns the so-called coal decision. (PAP)
